Principal Investigator

Kevin was born and raised in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  He received his A.S. degree from Collin County Community College in 1997.  He subsequently received his B.S. degree in biology from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1999.  In 2001, he moved to New Orleans to begin his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Tulane University.

Dr. Williams’s doctoral research on the acute activity in autonomic nuclei regulating energy expenditure and glucose metabolism was performed in the laboratory of Bret N. Smith, Ph.D., who is currently at the University of Kentucky.  Upon completion of his Ph.D. in 2006, Dr. Williams began his Post-Doctoral Fellowship with Dr. Joel K. Elmquist at UT Southwestern in Dallas.

Dr. Williams progressed to the rank of Instructor in 2009 in the Department of Internal Medicine.  He is now Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and is currently affiliated with the Center for Hypothalamic Research, the Neuroscience Graduate Program and the Molecular Metabolism & Metabolic Diseases (3MD) research track.  His lab examines the role of neural circuits and signaling mechanisms in controlling feeding behavior, energy expenditure, and glucose metabolism.
